This is a class for folks who want to join, or explore joining, First Presbyterian Church.

3 Sunday Meetings after worship during Act II (11:00-12:15) on Sundays, October 20 & 27 and November 3. We’ll get to know one another and work our way through the topics listed below.  There will be an opportunity at the conclusion of this 3-week series to officially become a member or deepen your involvement in other ways. If you choose to join, you will do so in worship on Sunday, November 10.

Information: Who, How, & Why
This first gathering will include introductions; highlighting of our vision, mission & values; talking about what we do together on Sundays; and an overview of our ministries and missions. In preparation, please read about our 5 vision statements and watch the video story for each: Mission and Values.

Doctrine: What we Believe
Rather than a lecture about theology, we intend this gathering to be an interactive conversation.  We’ll address questions that newcomers have.  You’ll have opportunity to explore your own belief in the context of we what believe as a community.

Expectations: Meaning & Value of Belonging
We’ll dig into what it means to belong.  We’ll hear from some of our elders and staff on this topic.  Finally, we’ll consider some of what we do together to embody the Body of Christ and explore your part in it.

Additionally, one of our elders will meet with you.
This will be a chance for you get to know and be known by one of our elders.  The assigned elder will call you to set up a time to meet for 30-40 minutes. You can choose to meet in-person, via Zoom or through a phone call.

After the Sunday Gatherings, if you choose to become a member we will ask you to join in a communal (re)affirmation of faith in worship on the Sunday indicated above.  You’ll answer a few questions to (re)affirm your faith in Jesus Christ in the sanctuary during worship.  During this worship service you’ll be welcomed by the congregation. If you have not been baptized, you would also be baptized in worship on that Sunday.

Because Jesus chose to identify with us, we choose to leave behind our individualism and belong to him and one another as the church; the body of Christ.  In our commitment to one another we are a representation of the Gospel … glorifying God through our worship, caring for one another in our fellowship, and giving ourselves in service to God’s mission as we spread love and justice in the world. With you, we continue being shaped into the people God is inviting us to be together; living out expressions of Jesus Christ that are guided by our Spirit-inspired vision, mission and values.
