A Long-Term Relationship
Anuak Meer Ministry at FPC was formed in the early 2000s to minister to the needs of women and children in Gambella, Ethiopia, after their lives were devastated by genocide. Over the years FPC and First Presbyterian Christian School have partnered with projects in Gambella. Alock Nyigow, member of FPC, grew up in Gambella. She wanted to help the widows and orphans in Gambella and brought her dream to many of us at FPC. We connected with many leaders at the church in Gambella and we were able to help the widows and orphans for a number of years. Then the leaders we were working with moved away and the ministry was put on hold.
Early in 2019 we were introduced to a wonderful young man: Cham Ochudhu, a teacher, college lecturer and volunteer in Gambella with the youth. He and his wife have a beautiful 3-year-old son. Cham was excited to work with us in the Anuak Meer Ministry. He chose 30 needy kids and got all the supplies for them so they would be able to go to school.
Alock and her 10 yr old son, Sammy & I, Susie Mushlitz, went to Gambella in 2019. Cham introduced us to the orphans and those caring for them and then we were able to go with them to be fitted for their school uniforms. They ignored the rain, and couldn’t wait to be measured, one by one! Each year Cham has added ten children to the ministry, helping them get ready to start school. We are helping 50 children now! Alock leads a team that raises funds, primarily through the purchase of handcrafted items, to keep the 50 children in school. Of course, your purchases of product, your personal involvement, and your donations are greatly appreciated — Anuak Meer Ministry has a designated fund account at FPC.
