MEET OUR NEW DIRECTOR
Hi! I am Bonnie Gray.
As an ESL (English as a Second Language) educator, I have often sat beside individuals who had important stories to tell but struggled to find the words in a new language. Watching their confidence grow as they learned to communicate reminded me of the life-changing power of language. I am honored to serve as the new Barton English School Director and bring with me 15 years of experience teaching English to refugees and immigrants. Language acts as a bridge to opportunity, connection, and belonging. I am passionate about empowering others through learning. Being fluent in Spanish and having learned a second language has given me insight into both the challenges and rewards of the language-learning journey. What drew me to this position was the opportunity to support a diverse community of learners and help create a welcoming environment where everyone can flourish. In my free time, my heart sings when I am spending time with my daughter and our cat, biking, spending time outside, and dancing. I look forward to meeting each of you, hearing your stories, and inviting you to come introduce yourself as we begin this exciting journey together.
WHO WE ARE
We are a non-profit organization comprised of educational professionals and experienced volunteers who are dedicated to walking through the language learning process with students. We strive to foster an environment of safety and belonging for the international community of Spokane. Our teachers use a variety of instructional approaches to match the diverse needs of language learners. We primarily focus on teaching English that adult students will encounter during their daily lives.

We are happy to give tours of Barton during 9am-1pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday or by appointment.
We offer free childcare for ages 0-5 upon request.
